WHEELING - Rev. Lino Pio Ebejer died at Wheeling Hospital on March 28, 2014, at the age of 84.
Father Ebejer was born in Malta on Aug. 31, 1929, a son of the late Arthur and Victoria Ebejer. In 1950, he moved to Canada. He then came to live in Detroit in 1952 and later served in the U.S. Army. He is a 1963 graduate of the University of Detroit, where he received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He graduated from Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Mass., in 1991, and was ordained to the priesthood that same year.
Father Ebejer served as associate pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Weirton from June 1991 to June 1993 and of Immaculate Conception Parish in Clarksburg from June 1993 to June 1994. He served as pastor of St. Thomas Parish in Thomas from June 1994 to June 2004 and of Sacred Heart Parish in Chester from June 2004 to June 2009. Father Ebejer retired from active ministry on June 3, 2009.
He is survived by his brother, Guido Ebejer, of Malta; his sisters, Agatha Emma Biles of England, and Victoria Busuttil of Malta; and several nieces and nephews.
Reception of the body will take place at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Wheeling on April 3 at 1 p.m. Visitation will follow throughout the afternoon until the Vigil Service at 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Joseph by Most Rev. Michael J. Bransfield, bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, on April 4 at 11 a.m.
Interment will take place in Malta at the convenience of the family.
