CALCUTTA - Jack E. Downard, 81 of Calcutta, passed away at East Liverpool City Hospital on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 following a lengthy illness.
He was born in East Liverpool, on March 5, 1933, a son to the late Clyde E. and Mary (Tinley) Downard. Mr. Downard was a 1951 graduate of East Liverpool High School and served in the US Navy from October 1951 to September 1955 as a Gunners Mate on the U.S.S. Randall. He worked as a Substation Operator at Crucible Steel before retiring in 1982 where he then worked for 10 years as Grounds Keeper for the Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church Camp, he was also an Elder of the Grace Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping with his family and visiting State Parks.
He is survived at home by his wife, Nancy G. (Johnson) Downard whom he married June 27, 1959; three sons: Gregory Downard and his wife Kristen of Strongsville, Ohio; Michael S. Downard and his wife Amy of Wellsville; and Daniel A. Downard and his wife Sally of Lisbon; four grandchildren: Jacob, Brittany, Lillian and Emma Downard and three step-grandchildren: Amanda, Michael and Sabrina Lentini and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Alice Burcham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes, with Rev. Gene Toot officiating.
Burial will follow at United Presbyterian Cemetery of Calcutta and the Tri-State Burial Group will accord military honors.
Family will be present to receive friends from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Calcutta Chapel.
