LISBON - Charles N. "Red" Robison, 82 formerly of Newell, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 16, 2014, after becoming suddenly ill.
Born in Caney, Kansas, on March 3, 1932, Red was a son of the late Neddie and Ida Fuqua Robison.
A former jockey, Red rode extensively at Waterford Park and Wheeling Downs, and before hanging up the saddle, he most recently was an out rider and pony rider at Mountaineer Race Track.
His wife, Elizabeth Robison, preceded him in death along with their son, Charles F. Robison; their granddaughter, Tammy White; and his brothers, Harry and Marion Robison.
Red leaves two daughters, Christina Williams and husband Doug of Lisbon, and Charlotte White and husband Harry of Anaheim, Calif.; his son, Sheldon Robison and wife Kim of New Manchester; sisters, Lola Gillam of Caney, Kansas, Martha Fowler of Maryland, Clara Colthrap of Oklahoma City, Okla., Vergie Allison of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Ruth Ann Hicks of Hot Springs, Ark.; and his brothers, Dale and Bill Robison of Caney, Kansas.
In addition he leaves eight grandchildren, Tena Lanik, Angee Cox, Eva Ilten, Harry White, and Sierra, Santana, Slade, and Shantel Williams; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mountaineer Race Track Chaplin Pastor James Smith will conduct services on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester where friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow the Friday services at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.
