ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Robert E. Horton, of Largo, Fla., died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 90.
Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Jan. 31, 1924, he was a son of the late Roland and Agnes K. "Kate" Aldridge Horton. For over 36 years, he worked as a customer service representative for the former TWA airline company, including time in Saudi Arabia and Thailand.
A former member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Bob was a 1942 graduate of East Liverpool High School and a member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association. He had served in the US Marine Corp, 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal during WWII, as well as in The Korean War. Bob had also received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Marine Corp League, American Legion Post No. 273 in Madeira, Fla., VFW Post No. 4719 in Gahanna, Ohio, and the East Liverpool Elks Lodge No. 258.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Hadgers Horton in 2003, and his second wife, Marcia Horton in 2008.
His brother survives, Richard Horton, and his wife Marilyn, of The Villages, Fla.
Evangelist Will Montgomery will conduct a funeral service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 1-3 p.m.
Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with military honors provided by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group.
