HUNTINGTON, W.Va - Oak Glen is tied in fourth place with Calhoun County and Fairmont Senior High School who each have 77 1/2 points after action on Friday in the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission AA-A state wrestling tournament.
Independence is in the lead with 153 points, while Greenbrier West is in second with 110, and North Marion High School is in third with 79.
No Oak Glen wrestlers made to to the championship semifinals, but Ryan Debee, Danny Wyke, Josh Cornell, Avery Flowers, Nick Tice, Alex Shuman and Noah Mills have all made it to consolation semifinals.
Debee pinned Herbert Hoover's Chase Stover in 4:57 in the 106-pound class and beat Calhoun County's Alen Metheney in a 9-4 decision. He will next go against Doddridge County's Hunter Riffle in the consolation semifinal.
Wyke won by a 16-0 technical fall against Berkeley Springs' Alex Davis in the 113-pound class and fell to Roane County's Cam Moore in a 13-0 major decision. He will go against Sissonvile's Ryan Keckley in a consolation semifinal.
Cornell beat Greenbrier West's Ben Alderson in a 3-1 overtime decision in the 126-pound class and fell to Grafton's Cody Goff in a 7-2 decision. He will face Calhoun County's Chris Goad in a consolation semifinal today.
Flowers won a 15-0 technical fall against Berkeley Spring's Billy Wilson in the 132-pound class and fell to Williamstown's Dalton George by an 8-1 decision. He will face Wahama's Randale Robie in a consolation semifinal.
Tice defeated Calhoun County's Casey Ritchie in a 3-2 decision in the 138-pound class and fell to North Marion High School's Austin Stanley in a 13-5 major decision. He will face Wirt County's Cody Ferguson in a consolation semifinal.
Shuman went up against Grafton's Tyler Moore and fell in a 3-0 decision in the 152-pound class. In the first consolation round he pinned Keyser's Beau Horner in 2:04 and pinned Bridgeport's Nick Muller in 2:43. His next opponent will be Williamstown's Jake Tracewell in the consolation semifinal.
Mills pinned Herbert Hoover's Peyton Carey in 3:48 Thursday in the heavyweight class and fell to Bridgeport's Noah Markley by 4-1 decision in the next round. He pinned Greenbrier West's Jacob Smith in :15 in his first consolation round. He then defeated Clay-Battelle's Hunter Six in a 9-1 major decision and will face Liberty Harrison's Ryan Moore in the consolation semifinals.
Oak Glen wrestlers who fell in consolation matches were Robert Bozek in a 6-1 decision against Petersburg's Corey Secrist in the 120-pound class; Patrick Arneault went up against Fayetteville's Cameron Underwood and fell in a 10-3 decision in the 145-pound class; Will Hogan fell to Wirt County's Matt Toney in a 3-2 decision in the 160-pound class; Devon Chadwick beat Bluefield's Roman Wallace in a 4-3 decision but was pinned by Calhoun County's Cole Boatright in :53 in the 170-pound class; Noah Flowers pinned Keyser's Zach Stickley in 4:25 but fell to Wyoming East's Jacob Summe in a 3-0 decision in the 182-pound class; and Dakota Price was pinned by Roane County's Scott Gibson in 4:05 in the 195-pound class.
The tournament resumes today and will crown the state champions.
