WELLSVILLE - John D. Porter, 63 of Wellsville, passed away at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
Mr. Porter was born in Wellsville on Feb. 27, 1950, a son to the late John and Alta "Daisy" (Newlen) Porter. He was a 1968 graduate of Wellsville High School and worked as a Wellsville firefighter for 25 years before retiring in 1993.
John attended the Hope Christian Fellowship and was a member of the Central Methodist Church, the Wellsville 180 Masonic Lodge, Wellsville Chapter 155, Royal Arch Masons, Wellsville order of the Eastern Star 417 and the Wellsville Elks Lodge.
He is survived by two brothers: James E. Porter of Columbus and Robert Porter and his wife Beth of East Liverpool; and one sister: Joyce Moore and her husband Jack of Wellsville; and nieces and nephews: Rick, David, Jerry, Tami, Tara, Courtney, Nicole, Amber, Barbie, and Bryan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Darlene (McIntosh) Porter whom he married on Nov. 20, 1999; one brother, Willis Porter; and five sisters, Mildred Porter, Carol Faye Porter, Gertrude Porter, Barbara Dawson, and Jean Byers.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael McHale, retired, officiating.
Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta Chapel on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Masonic Services will be held Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. and the Wellsville Fire Department will conduct the "Last Call."
