CALCUTTA - Barbara (Burgess) Elliott, 81, of Calcutta, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Adkins Care Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Chester on July 10, 1932, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ina (Conkle) Burgess. Having lived her entire life in the area she was part owner and operator of The Medicine Shoppe and later worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Marty's Pharmacy until her retirement in 1985.
Barbara was a graduate of Chester High School Class of 1950 and was a member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool, where she played piano for the junior missionaries and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Barbara is survived by a husband: James Elliott Jr. whom she married, on April 10, 1954; two sons: David J. Elliott and his wife Susan of Leetonia, and Jeffrey C. Elliott and his wife Lisa of Lisbon; a daughter: Theresa Snowden and her husband Dwight of Columbus; a brother: Charles Burgess and his wife Martha of Fredericktown; seven grandchildren: Brett, Keith, Gregory, Jason and James Elliott, Barbara Ling, Joseph Snowden; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by four brothers: Joseph, John, and Frank Burgess and an infant James Burgess; and two sisters: Sara Fife and Mary Chaney.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2014, at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Dunn of the church officiating.
Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park
The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at the Calcutta Chapel.
