WELLSVILLE - A project to bring water service to Duke Road in Calcutta is complete, according to Buckeye Water District Manager Al DeAngelis.
In his monthly report to the board of trustees during its regular meeting on Thursday morning, DeAngelis said the long-awaited extension project is now finished.
"Is there water flowing down Duke Road?" board member Tim O'Hara asked DeAngelis. "Yes sir, there is," he replied.
The project was initiated at the request of Jay Householder Jr., co-owner of the Shady Run Mobile Home Park on Duke Road, in August of 2012 to bring water service to the property. They had previously used wells for its residents, but needed to tap in with BWD in order to comply with Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
All that remains, DeAngelis says, is to complete landscaping restoration work where excavation was required to install the new pipe carrying the water from an existing main line on state Route 170. The work will be carried out come spring, when the conditions will be better for grading and spreading grass seed.
An Engineering Committee meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the district treatment plant on state Route 45, with personnel from Dallis Dawson and Associates, who managed the project, in attendance. DeAngelis says. Committee members will go over expenses with the firm to calculate final costs, with a percentage set aside to finish the landscaping work.
During committee reports, Computer Study and Purchase Committee chairman Mike Lynn spoke about developments with the new district Web site, which is nearing completion. Office manager Greg Stanley said the site is "about 75 percent done," with the major infrastructure in place. The main job presently is filling in the data, including everything from a history of BWD to a new customer online sign-up.
Stanley admitted that problems have been encountered with his attempts to post photos to the links. "I've got some pictures of the facilities, and it's not letting me upload them," he said, and suggested that these and other issues might delay the rollout for the new site, for March. "I don't know if we're going to meet that or not. We're going to try."
The site, which has been developed by The Richfield Group of Steubenville, will allow customers to monitor billing cycles and access a service map to alert if there's been a water line break, such as used by AEP Ohio when power outages occur. Stanley says an online billing and payment utility is being worked as well.
Perhaps most useful will be an office directory to connect customers to staff who can best answer their questions. Presently, people simply call the office with questions in hopes that the person with information is available, Stanley said, which is not always the case. "We field a lot of calls that we have to transfer back to the water plant," he said.
