WELLSVILLE - Former Fife Coal Road resident Harry Eugene "Gene" Conrad passed away at the home of his son in Phoenix, Ariz., on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. Gene, who was 84, had been wintering in Arizona for the last eight years since the death of his wife, Pat, in 2006.
He was born in Loudonville, Ohio on July 26, 1929, a son of the late Harry and Fern Messner Conrad. A 1948 graduate of Loudonville High School, he had been a pressman at the Ashland Times Gazette until 1967 when he accepted the same position with The Review, which brought him and his family to the East Liverpool area. Together with his wife, he owned and operated the Valley Drive-In in Wellsville for over 17 years, and had also owned and operated the Wedding Belle bridal shop in East Liverpool at one time. In later years, Gene was a familiar face as a greeter and in the lawn and garden department at Wal-Mart.
He attended the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool.

Preceding him in death on Sept. 1, 2006, was his wife, Priscilla Ruth "Pat" Conrad, whom he married on June 25, 1977.
Surviving are his four sons, Chris (Vickie) Conrad of Tucson, Ariz.; Steve (Cathy) Conrad of Loudonville, Ohio; David E. (Terry) Conrad of Wellsville; and Ken (Wendy) Conrad of Phoenix, as well as two step-sons: Bill (Tina) Henthorne of Akron and Bob (Carol) Henthorne, of Wellsville. There are eleven grandchildren, as well as twelve great-grandchildren.
Gene also leaves behind his sisters, Shirley Glover and Carolyn Conrad, as well as a brother, Carlin (Roseanne) Conrad.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at New Hope Community Church, 637 North Market St., in Loudonville, Ohio, with Pastor Jeff Cooper officiating.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at the Dawson Funeral Home, with Pastor Merrill Williams of the church officiating.
The family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday.
