Seven area wrestlers alive for titles

WHEELING, W.Va. - Seven area wrestlers are alive for individual weight class championships after action on Friday at the 61st Ron Mauck Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Wrestling Tournament at WesBanco Arena.

Beaver Local, Oak Glen and East Liverpool each have two wrestlers left who have not lost. Wellsville has one unblemished grappler left.

In the 106-pound bracket, Oak Glen's Ryan Debee and East Liverpool's Alex Potts advanced to the championship semifinals with multiple wins on Thursday.

Potts, the second seed, will take on Linsly's Tommy Curtin, the No. 3 seed, in his semifinal today, while Debee has the top seed in Shadyside's Greg Quinn in his semifinal bout.

At 113-pounds, Oak Glen's Danny Wyke advanced to the championship semifinal with two wins on Thursday. Wyke, the second-seed, will meet Wheeling Park's James Parsons, who is unseeded, in today's semifinal.

Beaver Local's Jason Keyes stayed alive for a 126-pound title as the second-seed secured two wins on Thursday to reach today's semifinal. Keyes will meet Barnesville's Austin Singleton, the sixth seed, in today's semifinal.

Beaver Local also had a good run in the 138-pound class as second-seed Daniel Hasson reached the semifinal. He will meet University's Cody Hamlin, the third seed, in today's semifinal.

East Liverpool's John Miscuk reached the semifinals at 195 pounds as the top seed. He'll face Tyler Newhart-Koreski, unseeded, of Parkersburg South today.

Wellsville's Seth Bloor is alive for a 220-pound title as he recorded two wins to reach the semifinal as a No. 3 seed. He'll face second-seed Cullen Ebbert of John Marshall today in the semifinal round.

Beaver Local has four wrestlers still alive in the consolation bracket. Those include: Quinton Bookman (106), Jack Dawson (113), Josh Barber (160) and Cody Martsolf (285).

East Liverpool's Cody Oiler (126) is still alive in the consolation bracket as are Oak Glen's Josh Cornell (126), Avery Flowers (138) and Nick Tice (138).

In the team standings, Parkersburg South leads with 160 points, followed by Steubenville at 126, Wheeling Park at 116.5 and Oak Glen at 104. Beaver Local is fifth at 94. East Liverpool is 13th with 60 points. Wellsville is 29th with 31 points.

Action continues at noon today.

Notes

On Thursday, the arena box office suffered an internet malfunction which resulted in a 30-minute delay due to tickets not being able to be purchased.

Also on Thursday, there were 166 matches contested, with 118 of them ending in pins. Another 28 went to decisions, while 11 were major decisions. There were eight technical falls and one injury default.
