William F. (Bill) “Shorty” Bragg, 92

NEWELL-Long time Newell resident, William F. (Bill) "Shorty" Bragg, 92 passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Bill was born on Sept. 10, 1921 to the late Albert J. and Maude Gregory Bragg at Holly River, W.Va.; in Braxton County.

A devout Christian, he was a charter member of the Glendale Nazarene Church where he was formerly the Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and outreach director.

Bill retired as a Blacksmith from the former Crucible Steel in Midland.

He served his country with the US Army in Europe during WW II, and he had loved to hunt and fish since his youth in Braxton County.

His life partner, Bertha Bragg preceded him in death along with brothers, Aaron, John, Lester, and Jimmy Bragg and his sisters, Eula Linger and Hester Gillespie.

Bill leaves his daughters, Karen Ogden and husband Jerry of New Cumberland, and Terry Bellville and husband Roy of Newell, His brother, Frank Bragg and wife Annette of Cape Carteret, N.C.; his grandchildren, Gerald (Arleta) Ogden, Alan (Crystal) Ogden, David (Linda) Ogden, Joy (Jason) Havens, Kerry Wilson, Greg (Deanna) Bellville, and Philip Bellville, and he also leaves seventeen great-grandchildren.

Pastor Scott Henry of the Church and his former pastor and retired minister Bert Grant will celebrate Bill's life on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Glendale Nazarene Church. Interment will follow with full military honors at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.

The family invites friends to join them at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester where they will be present on Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the services.
