WEST POINT - The home of Bruce and Barb Barrett on East Liverpool Road in Madison Township is a total loss following a fire there Monday afternoon. The West Point Volunteer Fire Department received a call of a structure fire at 12:05 p.m. Monday.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the home was fully involved, according to West Point Fire Chief Wayne Chamberlain. The West Point fire department received an additional fire engine and man power from the Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department while the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department was on standby at the station. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Chamberlain notes that home was so completely burnt that almost nothing remains to investigate.
"It (the home) sits up on a hill and the wind was really blowing that day," said Chamberlain, noting that the wintry conditions hindered firefighters efforts to fight the blaze.
The home is insured according to Chamberlain. Neither the the homeowners nor any firefighters were injured in the fire.
