NEWELL - Alva W. Scadden, (Pappy), 85 of Newell, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 56 wonderful years, Noni, at his side.
Alva was born on Jan. 2, 1928, in Ritchie County, W.Va., to the late Geo. C. and Sarah Fox Scadden.
He was a very faithful member of the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ in Chester where he was extremely active in many church functions and activities.
Alva was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving during WW II, and he retired from the Quaker State Oil Refinery in Newell after 27 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Noni V. Watson Scadden whom he married in 1957; he leaves his daughter, Kay Scadden Moore and husband Wilson of Windermere, Fla.; his very special grandchildren, Wil, Rachel, Abby, and Benjamin; his sisters, Mae Robinson of Marietta, Ohio, Dorothy Clark of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Carolyn (Ray) Carlile of Akron; his brother-in-law, Dale Mercer of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Alva in death was his brother, Guy C. Scadden; his sisters, Zelda E. Mercer, and Ellen O. Preloh; and his niece, Lois Flinn.
His services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Virginia Ave. Church of Christ in Chester, with Evangelist Ed Melott officiating. Interment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell where Alva will be given full military honors. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday (today) from 4-9 p.m. and on Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.
