CHESTER - Bobby J. Cyphers Sr., 75, of Chester, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at East Liverpool City Hospital following a long term illness.
He was born June 2, 1938, in Smithfield, W.Va., a son of the late David M. and Ethel (Shuman) Cyphers.
Mr. Cyphers was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired in 1998 from Ferro Company and was a member of the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-grandson, Brian George; three sisters, Virginia Riggs, Bonnie Craft and Helen Thomas; a half-sister, Goldie; three brothers, Don, Jim, and Ray Cyphers; and by two half-brothers, Ernest and Max Cyphers.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Scharlotte (Roberts) Cyphers of Chester, whom he married Nov. 21, 1964; two sons, Bobby (Jenny) Cyphers Jr. of Chester and David Cyphers of Newell; a daughter, Joyce (Don) Vantilburg of Chester; five grandchildren, Matthew, Leanne, Breeanne, David and Donald; five step-grandchildren, Mark, Doug, Harley, Elizabeth and Amber; and two sisters, Mary Shirey and Shirley Leonard both of Pennsylvania.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ, Chester. Jeremy Maine will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell.
