WELLSVILLE - Chauncey Earl Whiteman, 91, of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in New Martinsville, W.Va., the son of the late James R. and Eliza (Boston) Whiteman.
Chauncey was preceded in death on Jan. 9, 2001, by his wife, Dolores Ruth (Baker) Whiteman, whom he married Oct. 9, 1942. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Ernest, Robert, and Richard Whiteman.
Chauncey graduated from Wellsville High School in 1942. He served as a machinist in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He was employed for forty years as a millwright for the former Crucible Steel Mill in Midland, Pa., before retiring in 1982. Chauncey was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include one daughter: Judith E. Whiteman, with whom he resided; two sons: Dannie E. Whiteman and his wife Jane of Palmeto, Fla., and Richard A. Whiteman and his wife Cindi of East Liverpool; and one brother: William E. Whiteman and his wife Olive of Venice, Fla. Also surviving are four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Central United Methodist Church, 1000 Main St. in Wellsville, with Pastor Kenneth Maylone of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St. in Wellsville.
