Sincere gratitude

December 15, 2013
The Review

Dear Editor:

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much" - Helen Keller.

A simple quote with so much meaning. Recently the small village of Wellsville and the Tri-State Area proved how true this quote really was.

On Nov. 23, a vendor fair was held at the Wellsville Alumni Center to benefit Matthew Pickering. Matthew is a 16-year-old diagnosed two years ago, on Thanksgiving, with Leukemia, having gone through two years of chemotherapy in October he was told he would need a bone marrow transplant.

Matthew's grandparents, Fran and John Pickering, are lifelong residents of Wellsville but his dad Dave, a 1984 graduate of Wellsville, hasn't lived here for many years. As family of Matthew, we wanted to help them during this difficult time and came up with the idea for a vendor fair to raise money for him. From the day we started the planning for this event, Wellsville and the entire community got on board and proved that even after you move away from this small town you are never forgotten.

We would like to thank the Wellsville Alumni Association first and foremost for donating the use of the building to host this event. Next we would like to thank all of the businesses as well as all the individuals that donated to the Chinese auction or bake sale. Thank you also to all the vendors that came and set up. We especially want to thank the entire community for coming to this event and supporting it, we truly were overwhelmed by the amount of people that came, it far exceeded our expectations.

Words cannot express our sincere gratitude for all the support and prayers during this difficult time.
