Common Pleas Reports for 12-5

December 5, 2013
The Review

A New Springfield man accused of breaking into several East Palestine businesses and one New Waterford business in 2011 was dishonorably terminated from his intervention treatment plan in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court on Monday.

Judge C. Ashley Pike sentenced Nathan D. Zavatsky, 21, New Springfield, to serve a 30-day sentence at the county jail. According to court documents, Zavatsky stipulated to violating the terms of his parole.

Zavatsky had been charged with joining co-defendant Timothy Boggs in breaking into four businesses and attempting to break into another. On Feb. 27, 2011, they reportedly took money and digital cameras from Big Ed's LA Tattooing and Exotic Body Piercing; stole more money from Aunt Annie's Collectibles; and took money, energy drinks, cigarettes and beer from Hilltop Market. The two men also attempted to pry open the drive through window at Gorby's Grocery. Joined by a third co-defendant Brianne Trump, the three were charged with stealing a cash box from the register at the Vittle Village in New Waterford.

Zavatsky had been placed on a five-year treatment plan in September 2011 after being found eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction.

Boggs, 21, Old Route 344, Leetonia, had also been given a chance at intervention in lieu of conviction for the same charges, but was dishonorably terminated from his probation in March 2013, when he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Trump, 22, North State Street, New Waterford, who was placed on a three-year probation in April 2012, was found in violation of that probation in November 2013.

Joshua J. Knight, 24, East School Street, Salem, was placed on four years probation for a fifth-degree felony receiving stolen property charge. Columbiana County Common Pleas Court documents state Knight pawned jewelry belonging to Charity Daugherty at Downtown Gems and Jewels in Salem on Oct. 29, 2012.
