East Liverpool Police Reports 12-3

December 3, 2013
The Review

Responding Saturday to a report of a burglary on Park Boulevard, officers found a broken window through which they entered the residence. They reported finding Fred Porter, 81, in a room off the kitchen but they could not reach him due to the amount of rubbish in the house. Porter was forced to climb out of the room over the rubbish to reach officers, who helped him out the front door. Porter told officers that, about 11 p.m. Friday, two men he did not know entered the house, found him in the back room and threatened his life if he didn't give them what they wanted. He was struck in the head several times, and the men took two hand guns, two cell phones and $300 cash. Porter was transported to East Liverpool City Hospital for his head injuries.

Scott Helton Jr., 18, Lincoln Avenue was charged with theft after a manager at Dollar General, Walnut Street, reported seeing him walking around the store with several phone cases then putting them into his coat before walking out without paying. Helton was located by police and he reportedly had five phone cases in his possession.

Officers reported seeing Natosha R. Athey, 34, 18th Street Heights, Wellsville, walking out of an Ogden Street residence known for a history of drug activity then getting into a vehicle which had a loud exhaust. She was stopped for the loud exhaust and gave officers permission to search her car but not her purse. They did search the purse and reportedly found three syringes and a digital scale inside. Although Athey asked not to be charged because she is trying to get her children back, officers charged her with possession of drug abuse instruments, possession of drug paraphernalia and defective exhaust.

Officers responded to a vehicle that slid off the roadway into a Center Street yard Thursday and were told by Roy O. Moffett, 18, Union Ridge Road, Negley, that he was backing the vehicle and it slid. A neighbor, however, told officers another man was driving and was hiding in a nearby garage. As officers approached the garage, the man ran off and was pursued. Sheldon Robinson, 39, Crestview Road, Columbiana, had to be struck with a Taser before he stopped, according to reports. Officers found he had an outstanding warrant and Robinson was also charged with failure to control and driving under suspension. Moffett was charged with obstructing official business for telling officers he was driving the vehicle.
