Tuition Mission Foundation is in its 50th year of aiding our area's college-bound students - it's an anniversary that all within our community should be aware.
Formally known as Dollars for Scholars, this local organization has awarded some 5,444 scholarships totalling more than $5.4 million.
Understand that it's local money going to local students!
Those are amazing numbers.
For the 2013-14 academic year, TMF awarded the majority of its 58 recipients a $3,000 scholarship.
Now the size of the scholarship is not large in relative to what the actual cost is to attend an institute of higher leaning, but in the world we live today, every bit helps.
And TMF and its donors have been around for half-a-century, assisting as many area high school graduates as it can.
What's unique is that those benefactors return the scholarship money back into the program - as they are able - so others down the line may share in receiving scholarships.
It's a process that's allowed the ball to continue rolling throughout the decades.
We'd like to take this time to salute those who first brought this idea to fruition in 1963, and to those who continue to keep it running in 2013.
The name has changed, yes, but the objective has remained - to assist our area's students.
We thank all those involved.
