HAMMONDSVILLE - Roland "Dick" Householder, 82, of Hammondsville, slept away into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Assisted Living Ministry Services, East Liverpool, where he was a resident.
Born July 28, 1930, in Hammondsville, he was a son of the late Roland and Sara (Baker) Householder. With the exception of four years in the Air Force, during the Korean War, he spent his entire life in Hammondsville.
Dick graduated from Irondale High School where he participated in football, basketball, and his favorite sport, baseball. After graduation he continued to play baseball for the Irondale League and softball for Tony's Cafe of Wellsville. He enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to the beach, and winters in Florida.
Dick began his many years of working at an early age helping the James Parsons family with washing milk bottles and delivering milk. From there he went on to work for local farmers. Dick worked for 26 years at the former Dando Brick Yard before retiring in 1992 from the First Energy Sammis Power Plant in Stratton, Ohio. He attended the Pine Grove Methodist Church.
Dick is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Evelyn (Russell) Householder, whom he married on May 17, 1952; two sons: Richard (Cindy) Householder of North Ridge, Ohio, and James "Jay" (Diane) Householder of Lisbon; three grandsons: Ben (Megan) Householder of Asheville, N.C., Clinton and Trevor Householder of Lisbon; two step-granddaughters: Jaime Marks of EauClaire, Wis., and Marci Miller of Wellsville; and two great grandchildren. A sister Charlotte Galeno also survives.
In addition to his parents, Dick was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kaye Householder; and a brother, Myron Householder.
Funeral services will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St., Wellsville, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dan Crowe of the Hammondsville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Hammondsville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the funeral home.
