GEORGETOWN, Pa. - Dorotha Arleen Kerns, 86, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at UPMC Shady Side Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
Born in Parkersburg, W.Va., on May 6, 1927, Arleen was a daughter of the late Sir Walter Scott and Laura A. Wise Scott.
She was a homemaker and attended the New Manchester Christian Church.
Her husband, Hencil V. "Jack" Kerns, preceded her in death along with her sister, Janie Farrell.
Arleen's surviving family includes her son, Hencil V. Kerns Jr. of Georgetown; her daughters, Sharon Samko and her husband Bill of Bethel Park, Pa., Frances Maxwell and husband Tom of Chester, Risa Graham and husband Tim of Newark, Del., and Laura "Bitsy" Kerns of Industry. Seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren survive as well.
Pastor Tim Canter of the church will celebrate Arleen's life at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester where friends are invited to visit with family on Saturday from 3-8 p.m.
Interment will follow the Sunday services at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery in Georgetown. A continued time of remembrance will be held at the New Manchester Christian Church with food and fellowship following the committal services.
