EAST LIVERPOOL - Reports that a body was found in Thompson Park Tuesday turned out to be false, although a man was arrested after being found in the park under the influence and reportedly in possession of suspected drug paraphernalia.
Park Superintendent J.C. Blackhurst reported to the park board at its meeting Tuesday a rumor was circulating that a body had been found. During the meeting, however, he was apprised by police that was not the case.
According to police, officers responded just before 1 p.m. for a man slumped over the wheel of his vehicle in the lower part of the park. They found Gregory Todd, 36, Youngstown, behind the wheel of the vehicle, appearing to be asleep.
They reported Todd could barely stay awake long enough to answer their questions, and Tri-County ambulance was called.
The vehicle was towed due to the level of Todd's impairment, and officers said they found inside the console several torn sections of heroin "stamp bags."
After he was checked by EMTs, Todd was charged with public intoxication, and officers said he admitted being under the influence of heroin.
The sections of suspected stamp bags will be sent for testing with additional charges likely to follow, officers reported.
