WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Park Patriots' first play from scrimmage was an indicator of what the East Liverpool Potters were in store for as Eric Banks pulled in a 40-yard scoring toss from quarterback Zach Phillips.
The Patriots would go on to tally 45 first-half points on their way to a 52-0 victory over the visiting Potters Friday at Wheeling Island Stadium.
The Patriots scored on each of their seven possessions in the first half.
Wheeling Park improves to 5-0, while the Potters drop to 1-5.
Following an interception, Park's standout tailback Bryce Ingram ran 1 yard for Park's next tally. Ingram toted the ball three times for 57 yards in the four-play drive.
Liam Casey's 37-yard field goal wrapped up the scoring in the first quarter, giving Park a 17-0 lead.
"Watching film, we knew that they were an athletic team," said Potter head coach Rick Prescott. "They are a quality team and very well-coached."
In the second frame, Phillips tossed scoring passes of 4 yards to Michael Grove and 8 yards to Chalmer Moffett. A 23-yard scoring jaunt by Savion Johnson with just 5 seconds remaining in the first half, sent the teams to their lockers with Park leading 45-0.
The Park defense limited the Potters to 31 yards rushing and 2 yards passing in the first half. The Patriots rushed for 149 yards on 16 carries. Philips completed eight of 11 aerials for 166 yards and three scores.
"We didn't help our cause with our unwise decisions," Prescott said. "Park can run and throw. They can hurt you in so many ways."
The Potters threatened in the third quarter after Dillon Reynolds recovered a Patriot fumble at the East Liverpool 10-yard line. Staying on the ground, the Potters drove as far as the Park 16-yard line, before a fumble on set them back to the 29-yard line. An incomplete pass turned the ball over to the home team.
"At halftime, we challenged our team to come out and play with a little bit of pride and dignity," said the Potter coach. "We wanted to keep moving the ball and sustain drives."
Park notched a late touchdown when Nick Nardone rushed in from 3 out with 3:25 remaining. Kicker Liam Casey drilled the extra point, boosting Park out to a 52-0 lead. Casey was responsible for 10 points, seven PAT's and one field goal.
The Potters finished with 94 yards rushing on 45 carries. Kaleb Tallent led the Potter ground attack with 52 yards, followed by Zach English with 50.
