An officer southbound on state Route 11 Tuesday morning reported a vehicle coming up rapidly behind him on the exit ramp to Jackson Street. He said the vehicle made a hard right turn onto Church Alley and accelerated rapidly while he drove parallel to it on another street. The officer said the vehicle was traveling at a speed not prudent for Fourth Street and that it was obvious the driver had not stopped at a stop sign at Church Alley and Summit Lane. He noted this was particularly dangerous due to a day care located in the alley where children are picked up and dropped off. He stopped the vehicle and said the driver, Misty Conrad, 25, Moore Street, was highly agitated and denied driving recklessly, saying he could hear her shouting profanity while he was writing the ticket in his cruiser. According to the officer, a man loading boxes in the area commented to him about the level of disrespect she was displaying toward him. Asked if the address on her ticket was correct, Conrad reportedly told the officer he should know since the police department was at her house the previous night. She was cited for willful/ wanton disregard for safety.
Officers were called to the area behind the Marathon gas station in East End Wednesday morning for possible shots fired, but they found no evidence of gunshots.
