NEW WATERFORD-Richard G. "Windy" Whitacre, Sr., 80 of Pinewood Drive, passed away at 11:15 a.m., Friday at the St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, Columbiana, where he had been a patient since March.
He was born Dec. 22, 1932 in Rogers, a son of the late Donald and Olive Walters Rice. Mr. Whitacre had been employed with the Ohio Turnpike Commission, and had owned and operated his own truck.
He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.
Mr. Whitacre is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Henry; two sons, Richard G. Whitacre, Jr., Columbiana and Dean Whitacre, Columbiana, and a daughter, Debra Caldwell, Rogers. He also leaves two brothers; James Whitacre, New Waterford and Robert Whitacre, Lisbon, and five sisters; Janice Weingart, Salem, Ginny Baughman, Linda Wehr, Carol Dickinson and Karen Wicks, all of New Waterford. He also leaves six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with his pastor, Rev. Mark McTrusty, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. today.
