EAST LIVERPOOL -The Oak Glen boys soccer team made it five wins in-a-row with a 1-0 victory over the East Liverpool Potters on Tuesday.
The win at Mangano Field improved the Golden Bears to 7-6 on the season, while the loss drops the Potters to 5-6-1.
The two teams' last meeting at Oak Glen ended with the same 1-0 score. East Liverpool scored early in the first half of that one and held on for the win. In this meeting, Oak Glen's Cullen Bennett scored the games only goal with 7:32 left in the first half. The Golden Bears held on as senior Nate Bennett stopped 15 shots on goal and the Bears out shot the Potters 17-12. For the Potters, Austin Emmerling stopped 10 shots in goal.
Oak Glen assistant coach Jeff Sayre said, "We're finally playing together as a team. Everybody's back and healthy. We've put together a string of some pretty good games and have won five straight, we're pleased with how we're progressing as we head towards our sections."
Potter coach Zach Kinsey thought his Potters played a better second half but the early mistake that lead to Bennett's score was hard to overcome.
"Oak Glen is playing at full strength right now, they're a good team. Good teams capitalize on your mistakes. We played a good second half but couldn't put the ball in the net," Kinsey said.
The Potters will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday as Edison comes to Mangano Field. The Golden Bears will host Jefferson County Christian at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
