THOMSON, Georgia - Marvin Speerhas, 74 formerly of Beaver County, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in Thomson, Georgia.
Born Aug. 5, 1939, in Ohioville Borough, Pa., a son of the late Floyd Merrill Speerhas and Jane Rice Speerhas Anthony.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ron and Tim (Sticks) Speerhas; and his sister, Judy Speerhas Warrick.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1956-1960 as an aviation mechanic. Marvin worked maintenance at the former Crucible Steel Colt Industries, Midland; and also at the former Kerr-McGee plant in Savannah, Georgia. He was a lifelong Steelers fan and an avid fisherman. Marvin was Catholic by faith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judy Reinel Speerhas; his daughter Mandi Speerhas and her fiance, Keith Ga, with whom he had resided, and provided tender and compassionate care during the final stages of his illness. Also surviving are a step-daughter, Lisa Reinel and her husband, Jamal Strong; two granddaughters, Jazzmyn and Jaesa Strong; two stepsons, Jeff Lucas and Robert Converse; his brother, Terry Speerhas and his wife, Debbie; his sister, Janine Welsby and her husband, Larry; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Marvin also leaves behind his beloved yorkies, Precious and Snuffy; and several granddogs also mourn his passing.
Friends will be received Saturday, Sept. 21, from noon until 3 p.m. in the D.L. Williams Funeral Home, 848 Midland Ave., Midland, PA 15059; where a Blessing service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., followed by full military honors at 3 p.m., as presented by American Legion Post 481 Honor Guard.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a luncheon at the American Legion, Midland. Casual dress is welcome, as Marvin was a T-shirt and jeans kind of guy. Wear your Steeler garb in his honor!
