EAST LIVERPOOL - Richard Paul Austin, Sr., 81 passed away at his home on Price Street in East Liverpool at 8:01 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013.
He was born on May 10, 1932, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late George Anderson and Marjorie Austin Jones.
A 1950 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Mr. Austin went on to serve his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned to the area and went to work at the former Crucible Steel Corporation, where he retired in 1982 after 34 years.
He was a longtime member of Victory Temple in Midland, Pa. Wherever he went and whatever he did, he was a friend to all, and will be sorely missed.
Surviving at home is his wife, Donna, whom he married on Dec. 31, 1977.
Two daughters and three sons also survive: Kim Arrington of Massillon, Ohio; Deneen Thompson and her husband, John, of East Liverpool; Mark Austin and his wife, Tia, of Seattle; Richard P. Austin, Jr., of East Liverpool; and Don Austin, Sr., also of East Liverpool. Richard also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and a sister also survive: Robert Jones of Detroit, Mich.; William Jones and his wife, Kathy, of Salem; Chester Jones and his wife, Barbara, of St. Louis, Missouri; and Renee Porter of Columbus.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Janet Hill of the church officiating.
Burial will take place at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, with full military honors being provided by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group.
