EAST LIVERPOOL - Virginia Marian Shroades, 91, formerly of Plutus Avenue in Chester, passed away at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at Nentwick Convalescent Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Chester on Dec. 2, 1921, a daughter of the late Estella Iona Kochert and Robert J. Bennett.
Virginia had been educated in the Chester area and worked for 18 years at TS&T before moving to California, where she became associated with Honeywell in electronics manufacturing. She had also worked for three years at General Dynamics. While in the Chester area, she belonged to the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries.
Surviving her is a son, Roger D. Shroades, of Chester, one grandson, Roger Shroades, and four sisters, Jean Simmons, of Chester, Mary Holcomb, and her companion Jerry Carver of Sebring, Shirley Munaw, and her husband, Jack, of Chester, and Phyllis Kuhns, and her husband, Dennis, of Saline Township.
Virginia was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Roach and Edna Reed; as well as three brothers, Robert, Joseph and Harold Bennett.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Dan Crowe of Irondale United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
