YUCAIPA, Calif. - Mary M. (Marge) Mercer, 91, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Sept. 4, 2013, at Braswell's Community Convalescent Center where she resided for the past ten months.
She was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on Jan. 3, 1922, daughter of the late Donald W. and Ruth Moon Hyatt. After high school Marge completed Cosmetology training and worked as a hair dresser and later was employed by Homer Laughlin China Company for many years.
Marge resided in her home town until 1964, when she and her husband moved to California to be closer to their son. After 20 years, employed by Mattel Toy Company, she retired in 1984 and moved to the small town of Yucaipa in San Bernardino County. They enjoyed traveling, boating and she especially enjoyed sewing.
Her husband, Virgil A. Mercer, whom she married on April 14, 1941, passed away on Oct. 2, 2000. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother William C. Hyatt and his wife Dortha Hyatt; sister Sara Marie Hyatt Hays and her husband Lester E. Hays; and brother-in-law Frank Maltarich.
She is survived by her son Allen and daughter-in-law Sue of La Crescenta, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Cynthia Hyatt of East Liverpool; sister Ann Hyatt Maltarich of Sheffield Lake, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial took place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Covina, Calif. on Sept. 11, 2013 with Chaplain Steven Kay officiating.
