SALINEVILLE - A fire late Monday evening completely destroyed an abandoned home on county Road 55 near Salineville.
The Salineville Volunteer Fire Department was notified of the fire at 9:22 p.m.
The village fire department has a contract to provide fire fighting services to the Brush Creek Township area through the villages of Irondale and Bergholz according to Salineville Chief Jeff Lewis.
Several other nearby departments also responded including Highlandtown, Irondale, Franklin Township and Bergholz volunteer fire departments.
The abandoned home was fully involved when Salineville firefighters arrived on scene at 9:27 p.m. according to Lewis.
Firefighters battled the blaze with several tankers but were unable to save the structure. Firefighters were called back to the house at 1 a.m. when a passerby noticed that the fire had rekindled.
The home is owned by Wes Burgett and has sat empty for the last 10 years by Lewis' estimation.
Lewis said although the property is insured, it is unclear whether the home itself is insured.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, however, Lewis deemed the fire suspicious.
