CHESTER - Dorothy A. Bailey 93, formerly of Chester, has peacefully passed away in nursing care. Born April 21, 1920 in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Wilson H. and Icy M. Whorton Tams.
She had worked at TS&T Pottery. Most knew her from her years as a seamstress for Chester area residents. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 121 and enjoyed her times at the Hancock Co. Senior Citizens Center. She attended the Chester Church of the Nazarene for most of her adult life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson E. Bailey; four sisters, Grace Sharkey, Ruby Ward, Marjorie White, and Betty Butcher; one brother, Elvin Tams; a stillborn, Patricia; and three grandchildren.
Surviving are three daughters, Connie Bell, Katy Bryan, and Sally Crum and one son, Thomas Bailey; one sister, Donna Stevens; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; as well as two special nieces, Janet Six and Joyce Pirkkala. She will also be missed by her two lap cats, Tigger and Kitty Cat.
Dorothy was baptized in preparation for Heaven in 2010 by granddaughter, Linda Myers' husband, Tom.
Burial was in Shadow Lawn Cemetery, Newell.
