12:00 a.m. - Police responding to report of an assault at Ninth and Commerce streets witnessed a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser leave the scene, heading north on Broadway. Three males on the sidewalk told officers the people in the car were involved in the incident, prompting a traffic stop on the vehicle. The officer that stayed behind spoke with Shane Wright of Clark Avenue, who stated that four males in the car had assaulted him with punches and kicks. He showed marks on the right temple area, as witness Brad Owens II said Derek Thompson of East Liverpool got out of the car first, followed by three others, who proceeded to punch Wright, knocking him to the ground and kicking him. Michael Williams of East Liverpool and Reginald Pugh II of Taylorsville, N.C., were taken from the Chrysler, arrested and brought to the station for questioning. Williams said he took no part in the assault and knows none of the people involved. Pugh told police that once Thompson got out of the car to fight with Wright, he and Williams got out to watch the incident. Pugh and Williams were charged with assault. A warrant was to be issued for Thompson.
