CALCUTTA - Irene Laughlin, 78 of Calcutta, died on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at the East Liverpool Convalescent Center following a lengthy illness. She was born on April 27, 1935, in Midland, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Laura (Wisniewski) Golba.
Living her entire life in the area, Mrs. Laughlin retired from the former Crucible Steel Mill where she worked for many years as a clerk in the Metallurgical Department. She was a 1953 graduate of East Liverpool High School, a member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, its Charter Club and was a Bronze Contributor. She was a member of the former St. Ann's Catholic Church. Mrs. Laughlin enjoyed gardening, landscaping, floral designing and interior design. She loved animals, music, was an avid reader.
Mrs. Laughlin is survived by her husband, James F. Laughlin, whom she married March 11, 1961. Also surviving are two daughters, Suzanne Laughlin Varitek of Wintersville, and Diana Rae Laughlin of East Liverpool.
Besides her parents, a brother, Chester Stanley Golba preceded her in death.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Father Peter Haladej of Holy Trinity Parish, officiating.
Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m.
