Mrs. Merle Haught, 93

EAST LIVERPOOL - Mrs. Margaret Merle Haught formerly of 9th Avenue, LaCroft, wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver to her entire family, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at The Assumption Village in North Lima following a lengthy illness. She was 93.

Born in East Liverpool, Nov. 30, 1919, she was a daughter of the late James and Rhoda C. Steele Givens. A lifetime area resident, she worked for the former Crucible Steel Restaurant in Midland and then at Isaly's in East Liverpool for 38 years. After family, her faith was an important part of her life; she was a member of the New Springfield Church of God where she was active in its J.O.Y. Class for senior adults as well as the Tuesday Morning W.C.G. Ladies.

Her husband, James N. Haught, preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2000. The couple married May 6, 1945.

Survivors include two daughters, Jan Mandt, and her husband Mike, of Venice, Fla., and Diana Herron, and her husband Don, of Lisbon. There are five grandchildren: Targie Mandt, and his wife Jenna, Erick Mandt, and his wife Anne, Mikkelyn Adams, and her husband Chad, Stephanie Kirk, and her husband Michael, and Matthew Herron, and his wife Caroline; along with nine great-grandchildren: Sophia, Savannah, Rachel, James and Marcus Mandt, and Elijah, Eliana, Eva Adams and Isaac Herron.

Other survivors include two sisters, Anna Ruth Smith of Alliance, Ohio, and Nancy Craig, and her husband Dana, of Pennsylvania.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Mae Miller and Janice Jean Finney, as well as four brothers, Ralph, James, Carl and Roy Givens.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 3-8 p.m. The Rev. Jim Carmany of the church will conduct a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the nurses, aides and staff of Crossroads at Beaver Creek, The Assumption Village and Hospice of the Valley for their wonderful and compassionate care.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of the New Springfield Church of God, 3649 East Garfield Road, New Springfield, Ohio 44443.
