Vera Louise Francis, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL - Vera Louise Francis, 85, formerly of Beaver Avenue in Industry, Pa., passed away at the Calcutta Health Care Center at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

Louise, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on Jan. 18, 1928 in East Liverpool. She was raised by her father, Clarence Powell, following the death of her mother, Jessie, when Louise was just eight years old.

A Catholic by faith, Louise attended East Liverpool High School and had worked as a waitress, as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell, and as a finisher at Homer Laughlin following high school. On June 6, 1954, she married Nick J. Francis, and soon moved to the Midland/Industry area, where she became a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2007.

Louise and Nick were the parents of one son, Mark Francis, who survives in East Liverpool with his wife, Christina.

There are four beloved grandchildren: Mark Francis and his wife, Abby; Cody Francis, Jenna Francis and Jackie Francis, all of East Liverpool. Two great-grandchildren also survive, Emily and Alexa Francis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise was the last surviving member of her family, which included her sister, Laura Jamilkowski, and brothers James Powell, William Powell and Frank Powell.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with Evangelist Will Montgomery of the St. Clair Ave. Church of Christ officiating.

Louise will be laid to rest beside her husband at Calcutta U.P. Cemetery.
