The East Liverpool Police Department welcomed its newest patrolman, Chris Green, on Wednesday after he was sworn in by Municipal Judge Melissa Byers Emmerling, surrounded by family, friends, city officials and police officers from several departments. A lifelong city resident, Green graduated in 2003 from East Liverpool High School and will complete his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Kent State in August. He will begin his police officer training March 6 at the highway patrol academy in Columbus, which he will complete June 26. According to Chief John Lane, Green will begin his duties today, answering phones and otherwise getting acclimated to the department before starting his schooling. He replaces former patrolman Shawn McClelland, who recently left for a position with another police department. Green’s appointment will allow the department to continue with 18 officers.
