Where’s the school spirit?

February 17, 2013
The Review

Dear Editor:

On Monday, Feb.11, 2013, the East Liverpool 7th Grade girl's basketball team attended the BMC for the championship at Oak Glen Jr. High.

The Lady Potters were up against Weir Junior High and we knew it would be a tough game. In the end, the 7th grade Lady Potters came in a second place, which is something to be very proud of.

I was extremely disappointed that more Potter fans from East Liverpool did not attend this game to cheer these girls on. I didn't see any of our school staff or anyone from our administration, and there were barely any Potter fans (students) there at all. However, our opponent, from Weirton, filled up an entire section of fans for their girls. East Liverpool barely filled up even half of an area.

What really impressed me the most was to see about 10 students, along with some parents, from Beaver Local Middle School that showed up dressed in blue and white and holding up signs cheering our Lady Potters on. The Beaver Local students even made a banner for our girls to run through when they came back out after halftime. This literally brought tears to my eyes knowing that a rival school would come to support us.

I was also mad and ashamed that we didn't have the support from our own school. Shame on the students, staff, and administration for not showing your pride for your school. I want to send a big thank you to all the Beaver Local students and parents for supporting our 7th grade Lady Potters. I also want to send a big thank you to Coach Haley Desarro and to our 7th grade girls for an outstanding basketball season.
