James E. O’Connell Jr., 83

CHESTER - James E. O'Connell Jr., 83 of Chester, passed away on Saturday evening, Feb. 9, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Oakdale, Pa.; following a lengthy illness.

Jim was born to the late James E. O'Connell Sr. and Helen Kennedy O'Connell on July 19, 1929, in Sewickley, Pa.

An electrician, Jim was a member of the IBEW union local No. 712 in Beaver and spent a large portion of his time at the FENOC Nuclear Plant in Shippingport.

A very active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester, Jim sang in the church choir, was a former member of the Parish Council and also served as the former building supervisor.

He was a graduate of the former Ben Avon High School, was veteran of the US Navy during WW II, and was a member of the Hookstown American Legion.

Jim leaves his wife, Shirley Bradley O'Connell whom he married in1983; a daughter, Pam Smith and her husband Darwin of New Philadelphia, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Lindsay Vulgamore, and Kara Mumford.

The Rev. Father Eric Antwi will preside for a Memorial Mass on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester.

The Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester is assisting with these arrangements.
