John F. "Jack" Johnson, Sr., 82

EAST LIVERPOOL - John F. "Jack" Johnson, Sr., 82, of Riverview Towers on East 4th Street passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at the Nentwick Convalescent Center at 6:35 p.m. following a lengthy illness.

Born Oct. 16, 1930 in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Emmett and Mary Hart Johnson. A lifetime area resident, he retired from Metsch Refractories in Newell, and prior to that he worked at the former Potters Supply Company.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a Medic in a M.A.S.H. unit during both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. A member of the 1st Church of Christ, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Tri-State Area Coon Hunters Club as well as the VFW Post No. 66. He was also a member of the HAM Radio Club TARC of East Liverpool.

He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Dotson of Salem; and by one son, John F. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Wanda of Lisbon, Ohio. There are two grandchildren, Toni and Dustin; and five great-grandchildren.

He leaves behind one sister, Ruth Anne Bowers of East Liverpool and three nieces, Penny Tennant, Candy Biro, and Teresa Brown, and one nephew, James Biro.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Dennis "Scott" Dotson and by one brother, Harold "Dude" Johnson.

Friends may visit the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the Dawson Funeral Home. The Reverend Willard "Chuck" Adkins of the church will conduct a funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
