Lloyd Junior Nalley, 81

NEWELL - Lloyd Junior Nalley, 81, of Grant Street, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 7:25 a.m. at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after suddenly taking ill at home.

Born Dec. 12, 1931, in Arroyo, W.Va., he was a son of the late Lloyd and Josephine Cornell Nalley, Sr. A lifetime area resident, he was retired from the Sammis Plant of the Ohio Edison Power Company as their Coal Yard Foreman. He also spent several years as the Coal Yard Superintendent at the Bruce Mansfield Plant. After retiring from the power plant, he began working at the Dawson Funeral Home on June 1, 1996.

A veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War, he served proudly on the USS Moale DD 693.

A 1951 graduate of Wells High School in Newell and a member of the school's football team, he scored the very first touchdown on opening day at the Newell Memorial Stadium. He was recognized for this feat during the ceremonies of the last game played there in 2011.

A member of the Newell United Methodist Church, he was currently serving as their Chairman of the Board and was a past Trustee. A former Hancock County Justice of the Peace, he was also a life member, past president, and the current secretary of the Korean War Veterans. A member of the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group, he was also a life member of the Chester American Legion No. 121 and the Chester VFW. A past president of the Newell Lions Club during its 50th Anniversary Celebration, and at one time he was a local Boy Scout Leader in Newell.

His wife, Donna J. Rayl Nalley, whom he married March 10, 1954, and started dating at the age of13, survives at home. He also leaves behind two daughters, Lisa Kay Pence of Wellsville, and Kristen Lyn Cernansky and her husband, Rich of Steubenville; as well as two sons, Rodney Lee Nalley and Michael Paul Nalley of Newell.

There are 12 loving grandchildren, Allen Kell, Angela Nalley, Jennifer Nalley, Douglas Pence, Adam Pence, Ashley Hobbs, Lance Hobbs, Matthew Pence, Joshua Pence, Brittany Nalley, Cody Cernansky, and Ryan Nalley; and eight great-grandchildren.

He also leaves behind three sisters, Betty Corwin and her husband, Frank, Hazel Jackson, and Anna Buck; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Edith McIntosh; and three brothers, Basil, Laymond, and James Nalley.

Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Martin, Pastor Norm Eckert, and Evangelist Will Montgomery, three of Lloyd's associates at the funeral home, will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center immediately following the service.
