CHESTER - Elizabeth D. Carlson, 109, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the Stone Pear Pavillion in Chester. She was born in Nebraska, Pa., on Oct. 10, 1903, to the late Mary M. (Shellhouse) and George E. Anthony.
Elizabeth graduated from Youngsville High School, class of 1922. She went on to graduate from (Clarion Normal School), now known as Clarion University. She taught at Whitestown School, a one-room schoolhouse. She was a member of the Oil City Free Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Women's Missionary Society. She had served as a missionary in Haiti from 1969-71. Elizabeth was a devout and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, who saw fit to grant her a long life, and at the time of her passing had led her family into 6 generations.
Surviving are two sons: Frank (Dorothy) Carlson of Texas and Paul (Barbara) Carlson of West Virginia; and 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Frank Carlson; two daughters, Joan Kelly and Ruth Robertson; four brothers, Charles, Leonard, Wenzel and Clyde; four sisters, Josephine, Georgia, Ethel and Autumn; and a grandson, Leslie Carlson.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at McKinney Funeral Home in Youngsville, Pa., where a funeral service is 1 p.m. with Rev. Paul Knight officiating.
