Harry H. "Ham" Hamilton, 94

EAST LIVERPOOL - Harry H. Hamilton, of South Surry Road in East Liverpool, passed away at the age of 94 on Saturday evening, Jan. 5, 2013, at East Liverpool City Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born on July 22, 1918, in Pittsburgh, the only child of the late Harry Oliver Hamilton and Florence Goodworth Hamilton. "Ham", as he was known to his many friends, was raised in Toronto and was graduated from Toronto High School in 1937, before moving to the East Liverpool area.

For 37 years, he worked in the coldstrip at Crucible Steel, retiring in 1979. Upon his retirement, he began to work as a part-time elevator operator at the former Ogilvie's Department Store in the downtown. A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church since the late 1950's, Harry was an avid fisherman and also loved to dance. He and his wife, Thelma, belonged to the Memory Lane Dance Club, and especially enjoyed square dancing. He had most recently gone dancing two weeks ago. Always youthful at heart, he loved keeping up with the activities of his children and grandchildren and their families, and was a great source of information, especially when it came to talking about"the good old days". He also belonged to the Elks Lodge #258 in East Liverpool.

His loving wife, Thelma Mae Hamilton, whom he married on May 9, 1947, survives at home.

Also surviving are two daughters and a son: Linda Roe and her husband, Roger; Lisa Prince and her husband, Randy; and Larry Hamilton and his wife, Linda, all of East Liverpool. There are seven grandchildren as well: David Hamilton and his wife, Alison; Shelley Landy and her husband, Steve; Brian Hamilton and his wife, Kellie; Doug Roe; Lori Shenton and her husband, Bill; Blake Prince,and Madison Prince. Twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson also survive and will miss "Grandpa Ham".

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Dr. Steve Cramer of the church officiating.

Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.
