LISBON - A preliminary hearing was set in Columbiana County Municipal Court Monday for a man charged after allegedly opening fire while standing on a patio at Tony's Place in Wellsville on Sunday.

Court documents allege Donald F. Edge Jr., 35, Sherwood Road, Wellsville, was shooting several shots from a 9mm pistol over Erie Alley and in the direction of a trailer park and the Stevensons and Co. property.

A Jan. 7 preliminary hearing was set for Edge who has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment, discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises and tampering with evidence for allegedly hiding a magazine from the gun under a beer bottle in the snow. A pretrial was set at the same time for a charge of weapons while intoxicated.

Wellsville Police Chief Joseph Scarabino said his department reacted quickly and witnesses at the bar, located on Third Street, were able to quickly point the man out. He was taken into custody before anyone was hurt.

"Thank God no one was injured," Scarabino said.

Edge's motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.
