Memorial set up

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes wishes to express our deepest sympathy to the victims and their families of the recent tragedy in Newtown, Conn. Our thoughts are also with the witnesses, first responders, their community and all of those involved in this tragedy. We invite our communities to visit our locations in Calcutta, Wellsville and East Liverpool from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to express their condolences and spend a moment. We have prepared a Tribute memorial which included cards, photos, flowers, memorial register book and candles. We will send the memorial book, cards, notes and pictures from our community on Monday to the office of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Boil order in effect

NEWELL - A boil order is in effect for Newell, from Taft Court, continuing south, including bottom of Snow Hill Road until further notice, due to water break.

Yellow Creek trustees

WELLSVILLE - The Board of Trustees of Yellow Creek Township will meet at 6 p.m. today at the township building, 42793 Oak Ridge Road. Public is invited.

CountyBoDD meeting

LISBON - The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Administration Offices, 7675 state Route 45.

Pre-K registration begins

NEW MANCHESTER - Phone in registration for Hancock County, Pre-K Classrooms for the 2013-14 school year will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 25, 2013. Interested parents/guardians of children who will be four years old prior to Sept. 1, 2013 are to call 304-564-3411, extension 3320 or 3322 and speak with a registrar to begin the registration process. The process will be explained during the telephone conversation and a registration packet will be mailed to be completed at home.

In Northern Hancock County, registration will be accepted for classrooms at New Manchester Elementary School, Allison Elementary School, the Northern Panhandle Head Start Center in Newell and The Tree House in Chester (sites subject to change).

To complete the registration process, parents/guardians will need the child's current immunization records, social security card and state certified birth certificate (from the Office of Vital Statistics in the state in which the child was born, it must be signed by the State Registrar with the official seal). Also, if applying to one of the Northern Panhandle Head Start sites, parents will need proof of income. Children will also be scheduled for a mandatory screening in March of 2013 (exact dates and times to be announced).
