Teala M. Swanson, 27, 17th Street, Wellsville, was charged Sunday with theft and possession of drug abuse instruments after an employee of Dollar General downtown reported seeing her place several snack food items into her purse. After paying for some items, she reportedly left without paying for the things in her purse. While being processed at the police station, officers reported finding three spoons with residue, two used syringes, two empty heroin packets and some pills inside her purse.
Responding to the Burton Alley area Friday for a reported car jacking, officers took John E. Bowles, 37, Aten Avenue, Wellsville, into custody as a fugitive from justice from Montgomery County. He is wanted there for failing to appear for sentencing. The investigation into the reported car jacking is pending.
Shawn D. Hall, 34, Hepzibah, W.Va., and William J. Nally, 25, Pennsylvania Avenue, were both charged Sunday with possession of criminal tools and criminal mischief. According to police, an officer noticed a van driving up and down the streets and then parking on Avondale, with two people dressed in black exiting the vehicle. They reportedly walked to Cadmus Street, where they started ransacking a Jeep. As the officer approached, they began to walk away and he noticed the man later identified as Nally wearing blue rubber gloves. At gunpoint, the officer ordered them to keep their hands in sight, saying the man later identified as Hall dropped a black toboggan and kicked it underneath the cruiser. Hall was also found to have a screwdriver and flashlight, while Nally had a second pair of gloves and a flashlight, officers reported.
Floyd E. Coles, 41, Gaddes Street, was charged with theft after reportedly taking a beer from Giant Eagle Friday.
Colleen M. Davidson, 37, Canfield, was cited Friday for assured clear distance after her vehicle reportedly struck the rear of another driven by Kathleen E. Bragg, 47, Grant Street, Newell, W.Va., while both were on the ramp to state Route 11.
