EL girls fall at home, 60-39, against Minerva
EAST LIVERPOOL - One bad quarter. A scoreless third quarter doomed the East Liverpool girls varsity basketball team on Wednesday as they fell, 60-39, at home against Minerva.
The Potters (3-3) held a 29-20 lead at the half, but were outscored 20-0 in the third quarter.
"We played a really good first half,"?East Liverpool coach Allan Dingey said. "Then we lost our composure and made some bad decisions. We're a young team and we couldn't handle the pressure."
Nikayla Edgell was the lone Potter to reach double digits with 12 points, while RaeAnna Holmes and Mary Davis each netted six points.
Rachel Elcher led Minerva with 16 points.
In reserve action, Minerva won, 32-23. Ronnie Bailey led East Liverpool with six points.
The Potters are set to host Weir next Wednesday.
Wellsville bowlers drop two to Cardinal Mooney
EAST LIVERPOOL - The Cardinals came into town and left with two wins.
Cardinal Mooney swept Wellsville on Wednesday in bowling action at Walnut Lanes.
In the boys match, Mooney finished with 1,876 to Wellsville's 1,592. Matt Bowling had a high game of 163?(295 series).
In the girls match, the Cardinals came out on top, 1,790-1,493. Olivia Palmer led the Tigers with a high game of 177 (313 series).
Wellsville will play East Liverpool on Monday.
EL boys swim team beats Brooke, 83-78
WELLSBURG - Two up, two down for the Potter boys.
East Liverpool's boys swim team improved to 2-0 on Wednesday with a 83-78 win over Brooke.
Mat Campbell finished first in the 50 Freestyle (24.48), while Jacob Angus was first in the 200 Freestyle (2:38.05).
Caleb Radcliffe took the top spot in the 100 Butterfly (1:20.88).
Two relay teams took first, including the 200 IM?(2:02.71) and the 200 Freestyle?(1:46.34). Both teams include the same four swimmers:?Campbell, Ian Smith, Kyle Stevens and Stefan Yoho.
On the girls side, Brooke won, 102-43.
Taylor Ward finished first in the Backstroke in 1:40.59 for the Potters.
East Liverpool will swim against Edison next Tuesday at Stratton Pool.
South Side boys fall to Burgettstown, 65-55
HOOKSTOWN - The South Side boys varsity basketball team fell to 0-2 on Wednesday with a 65-55 loss at home against Burgettstown.
Jon Magusiak led the Rams with 24 points, followed by Lucas Collett with 10 points.
South Side will play at Northgate on Friday.
Oak Glen junior high boys basketball results
NEW MANCHESTER - The Oak Glen 7th grade boys basketball team defeated Edison, 36-19. Colton Fryer led the Bears with 16 points and 23 rebounds, while Joe Durante had 12 rebounds.
The Oak Glen 8th grade team lost, 41-35. Jeffrey Rice paced the Bears with 12 points, while Noah Feicht has seven rebounds.
Oak Glen will host Weirton on Monday.
