Wilda Loraine Simms, 87

YOUNGSTOWN - Wilda Loraine Simms, 87, of McDonald, Ohio, died at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Omni Manor Health Care.

Wilda was born on May 12, 1925, in New Cumberland, to the late Frank and Margaret Slentz Heffner. She spent her childhood in Port Homer and her adulthood in East Liverpool, before relocating to McDonald in November, 2007.

Together again

She was graduated from Toronto High School in 1943 and had been employed with the William Erlanger Company, Pioneer Pottery and later the East Liverpool School System, retiring in 1986.

On March 7, 1947, Wilda was united in marriage with Harold N. Simms, sharing 52 years of together until his passing on Dec. 31, 1999.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and travel.

Besides her parents and husband, Wilda was preceded in death by her brother, Charles (Red) Heffner.

Wilda is survived by two daughters, Patricia M. (Ralph) Nicastro of McDonald, and Susan (Scott) Dubberly of Boynton Beach, Fla. Four grandchildren survive as well: John (Amy) Cunningham and Steven (Linda) Cunningham, all of McDonald, and Christopher Dubberly of Washington, D.C., and Katherine Dubberly of Boynton Beach; along with four great-grandchildren: Lauren and Nathan Cunningham of McDonald, Brandon Wibert of McDonald, and Dewie Cunningham (Tabitha) of Lake Milton. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Neva Heffner of Wellsville and Mary Simms Bochla of Dover, Del.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Carla Davies of Woodland Park United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial considerations be sent to Woodland Park United Methodist Church, 601 Ohio Avenue, McDonald, Ohio 44437.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Omni Manor in Austintown and Hospice of the Valley for all the care and support.
