CHESTER - A 14-year-old Chester boy who was injured in an accident on Carolina Avenue Sunday evening remains in critical condition in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Paramedics from Chester-Newell Ambulance found Tyler Simpson unresponsive and unconscious in the roadway at 5:41 p.m. Sunday, said Dezso Polgar, director of operations for the ambulance service.

Simpson, an eighth-grader at Oak Glen Middle School, was taken by ambulance to Chester City Park and then flown by Air Evac Lifeteam to Pittsburgh, said Matt Handley, program director for the helicopter ambulance service.

Chester police have not completed their investigation but believe Simpson ran out into the street and into a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck, Chief Ken Thorn said.

Thorn would not release the name of the driver pending completion of the investigation. He said Monday he had no new information and was awaiting the paperwork from Lt. Jim Bryan.

The accident happened near Hancock County Savings Bank, in the 300 block of Carolina Avenue, the main thoroughfare through town, Thorn said.
