Holiday open house set in Beloit Sunday

November 14, 2012
The Review

BELOIT- A group of local vendors are hosting a holiday open house this weekend in hopes of connecting other area vendors with customers.

A holiday shopping open house is scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Westville skating rink and bingo hall, 26701 U.S. Route 62, Beloit. The event features over 30 local vendors offering name brand and homemade crafts and foods including everything from crafts, jewelry and makeup to homemade candles, soaps and baked goods. There will also be a concession stand and monetary donation collection for Relay for Life.

Coordinated by Misty Antram of Salem, Adele Martig of Beloit and Melanie Householder of the Lisbon area, the open house brings together vendors for an event that benefits both the sellers and shoppers, according to Antram, a Tastefully Simple representative. Antram said the three women had been hosting joint "girls night out parties"- Martig sells Thirty-One Gifts and Householder Premier Designs Jewelry- and figured if the smaller parties fit the chaotic lifestyles of their clients, a larger event could also be successful.

"It's nice to be able to support one another," she said. "It's just as easy for people to run to...bigger cities to get a product, but this is closer knit. It raises awareness of local businesses in the area."

Antram's mother, Carol Planisky, echoed that sentiment while noting the event's central location between Canton and Boardman, as well as the wide array of vendors with something for everyone's budget.

"Where else can you go and get all your shopping done at once," she said. "There's such a vast array of vendors. And everybody's helping each other out. With the economy so tight right now, [local vendors] need to pull together."
